Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling

Vandaag is de nieuwe Bijbelvertaling verschenen. Volgens het Nederlandse Bijbelgenootschap, dat samen met de Katholieke Bijbelstichting verantwoordelijk is voor de vertaling, zou deze vertaling de Nederlandse 'standaardvertaling' moeten worden, voor gebruik in kerk, cultuur en kunsten.
De eerste druk van 100.000 exemplaren is al geheel uitverkocht in de voorverkoop. De NBV, zoals de vertaling kortweg genoemd wordt, is het resultaat van een project van tien jaar, à 12 miljoen euro, waarin vertalers en letterkundigen nauw samenwerkten en ook meer dan honderd 'meelezers' uit kerkelijke en literaire kring betrokken waren. Het is niet de eerste Nederlandse bijbelvertaling die bedoeld is voor alle kerkelijke gezindten. Dat is de Groot Nieuws Bijbel 'in de omgangstaal' uit 1983. Het is wel de eerste met de pretentie van standaardbijbel, en ook de eerste waarbij ook joodse kerkgenootschappen betrokken waren.

Today, the New Bible Translation has been released. According to the Netherlands Bible Association, who has supervised the translation together with the Roman Catholic Bible Foundation, this translation should become the Dutch 'standard translation' for use in church, culture and the arts.
The first edition of 100,000 copies has already been completely sold out during the presale. The NBV, as the new translation is called for short, is the result of a ten-year project costing 12 million euros, in which translators and linguists have closely cooperated and in which over one hundred 'additional readers' from religious and literary circles have been involved as well. It is not the first Dutch translation of the Bible that aims to be for all religious denominations. That would be the 'vernacular' Groot Nieuws Bijbel of 1983. However, it is the first one that purports to be the standard Bible, and also the first one in which Jewish denominations have been involved as well.
