Jan Pasma (56) uit Boksum is boos. "Den Haag en Brussel mogen hun regelgeving houden. Wij Friezen regelen het liever zelf." De rechtbank mag het zoeken van kievitseieren dan verbieden, maar "ik ga gewoon het land in".
Woensdag vaardigde de rechtbank in Leeuwarden een verbod uit op het ljipaaisykjen, dat vrijdag om middernacht ingaat. Wordt het eerste ei voor die tijd gevonden, dan wordt het ceremonieel aangeboden aan commissaris van de koningin Nijpels. De provincie Friesland stond het eizoeken toe op basis van de Flora- en Faunwet. Daartoe was een ontheffingsbesluit genomen, met tijdsbeperkingen en maximaal vijftien eieren per zoeker per seizoen. Dat werkt niet, oordeelde de rechtbank.
Volgens de Vogelbescherming en de Faunabescherming is het rapen van eieren schadelijk. In de rest van de Europese Unie is het al verboden. Friezen mochten op cultuurhistorische gronden blijven rapen.
Jan Pasma weet nog goed hoe hij als kleuter met de grote jongens mee mocht het land in. Hij raakte verknocht en nam elk jaar aaisikersvrij. "Het is een soort sport, waarbij je de vogel te snel af moet zijn. Het appelleert aan het jachtinstinct."
Friesland zag woensdag de primeur van het eerste kievitsei aan zich voorbijgaan: dat werd om 12.20 uur gevonden ten noordoosten van Eemnes in Utrecht. Het Utrechtse ei mag echter niet worden geraapt, waardoor er een kleine kans is dat Nijpels het zijne alsnog voor vrijdag in ontvangst kan nemen.

Jan Pasma (56) from Boksum is angry. "The Hague and Brussels can keep their regulations to themselves. We Frisians had rather make our own rules." The Court may prohibit the collection of plover eggs, but "I will go into the fields regardless".
On Wednesday, the Court issued a prohibition against ljipaaisykjen, effective Friday midnight. If the first egg is found before that time, then it will presented ceremonially to the Queen's Commissioner Nijpels.
The province of Friesland has permitted the egg-hunting on the basis of the Flora and Fauna Act. For that purpose, dispensation had been granted subject to time limits and a maximum of fifteen eggs per hunter per season. That will not do, judged the court.
In accordance with the Bird Protection and Fauna Protection Association, the collection of eggs is detrimental. It has already been prohibited in the rest of the European Union. For cultural-historical reasons, Frisians has been permitted to continue collecting eggs.
Jan Pasma remembers well how, as a little kid, he could join the big boys into the fields. He got a passion for it, and each year he took aaisikersvrij. "It is like a sport, in which you have to beat the bird to it. It appeals to the hunting-instinct."
On Wednesday, Friesland had to do without the scoop of the first plover egg: it was found to the north-east of Eemnes in Utrecht at 12:20 hours. The Utrecht egg cannot be collected though, so there is an off chance that Nijpels will still be able to receive his own.
